The complexity of the global infectious disease challenge necessitates the development of a new cohort of leaders. The Global Viral Fellows program seeks to develop future leaders by identifying the next generation of emerging scientists and technicians and place them in the world’s leading public health institutions and research organizations. This program will provide opportunities for emerging leaders to work in the international network of government, academic and NGO partners conducting integrated biological research. Fellowship positions will include research environments, international public health response settings, and centers of public health policy and lawmaking.
Supported by Wellcome Trust and the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, the VIZIONS project seeks to understand the nature, public health importance and origins of the large number of undiagnosed infectious disease cases that occur in Vietnam. Focusing on both clinical and community based high-risk cohorts, this study will generate new insights into the diversity of human pathogens (especially viruses) and into the biological and behavioral processes involved in the emergence of novel pathogens.
Global Viral supports research laboratories and field sites in Central Africa and Southeast Asia focusing on viral discovery at the human-animal interface.
